Preventing Strokes: Aspirin, Plavix, Coumadin, Pradaxa, or What?

submitted by: admin on 02/18/2015

A large clinical trial testing the effects of aspirin and Plavix to prevent small strokes was stopped because there was no added benefit by combining these drugs and the risk of bleeding was too high. This information was presented at the 2012 American Stroke Association meeting in February of 2012. A second abstract presented at the same conference showed that Coumadin and aspirin were equally effective in preventing deaths and strokes in patients with congestive heart failure.

All of the drugs used to anticoagulate people in mainstream medicine, which includes, aspirin, Plavix, Coumadin, and Pradaxa are associated with potentially life-threatening bleeding. Coumadin also has the effect of causing osteoporosis and accelerating arteriosclerosis after just 2 years of treatment. Nutritional medicine offers several options that include fish oil, nattokinase, lumbrokinase, and ginkgo biloba, but they have been alll but ignored by MDs because there's not sufficient research to compare the effects of mainstream drugs to these nutrients. These studies should be done the by NIH!

Fortified with increased levels of astaxanthin for expanded health benefits
We have increased the amount of the powerful antioxidant astaxanthin in XanthOmega™ Krill Oil from 1.5 mg to 12 mg per serving to help achieve optimal benefits from this potent carotenoid.

It would take 8 conventional krill softgels to equal the astaxanthin levels in just 1 XanthOmega™ softgel!

What are Krill?
Krill are tiny crustaceans found in the sea and make up the world's largest animal biomass. The oil extracted from krill is rich in the omega–3 fatty acids EPA and DHA bound to highly unsaturated phospholipids, closely resembling human brain phospholipids. These phospholipids – phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylinositol, and phosphatidylethanolamine – are essential to life and are a major component of cell membranes, functioning as cell messengers and as carriers of EPA and DHA, providing a fast and effective delivery of these omega–3s.

Designs for Health's improved XanthOmega™ Krill Oil has a high phospholipid content, standardized to a minimum of 40% phospholipids, mostly as phosphatidylcholine. This updated version is considered to be a virgin krill oil, the purest form available, with higher phospholipid bioavailability, enhancing the absorption of one of krill's shining features, the powerful antioxidant astaxanthin

Astaxanthin, the carotenoid from the microalgae, haematococcus pluvialis, is a staple of krill's diet and gives them and other crustaceans their vibrant pink color. Designs for Health has increased the amount of astaxanthin in XanthOmega™ from its original 1.5 mg to an impressive12 mg per serving. Many studies suggest that this exceptionally high level of astaxanthin offers an array of therapeutic benefits, which may include:
• Powerful antioxidant[1]
• Cardiovascular health – helping to promote healthy lipid profiles; potential anti–hypertensive[2,3]
• Sports performance – increasing muscle endurance and reducing exercise–induced muscle damage[4]
• Eye support – Reducing eye fatigue and improving visual acuity[5]
• Supporting skin health – protecting against UVA–induced aging, as in skin sagging and wrinkles[6]
• Anti–inflammatory[7,8]
• Gastric health support – helping to reduce gastric inflammation and reflux symptoms[9,10]

AstaREAL® – the Astaxanthin of Choice
Our improved XanthOmega™ krill oil's astaxanthin now comes from both, naturally occurring levels found in krill oil and from AstaREAL®, a registered brand of astaxanthin extracted directly from microalgae using a solvent–free technology that ensures maximum control and purity. AstaREAL® astaxanthin is the most studied astaxanthin in the world with over 40 clinical studies, both animal and human.

XanthOmega™ Krill Oil's Stellar Line–Up
In addition to its rich phospholipids, omega–3s, and astaxanthin,XanthOmega™ also naturally contains several other antioxidants including, canthaxanthin, β–carotene, vitamin E and trans–retinol vitamin A. These antioxidants offer benefits of their own while also protecting this nutrient–dense oil from oxidation.

Designs for Health's XanthOmega™ Krill Oil is made using a unique cold–extraction process that converts it into stable oil. This process protects the lipids from alteration and avoids peroxidation. It is free of heavy metals and organohalide pollutants, making it extremely pure. This product does not cause reflux or regurgitation commonly experienced by those consuming regular fish oil supplements.
