Obesity, weight control, nutrition, diet and exercise are topics that are discussed on many of the audios and videos on DoctorSaputo.com. I cannot stress enough the importance proper nutrition and getting enough exercise can do to keep you healthy and looking good.
As women age our bodies change, and the way we metabolize food can change as well. Areas that were once perky and trim may now be a bit droopy and have more fat. One such area is the belly, or the omentum. The omentum is the cushion of tissue that hangs from the stomach to the pelvis. A doctor cannot liposuction it out because it is not located under the skin, but deeper. Omental fat has a worse effect on your body than making your figure look bad. It is closer to your organs than other body fat, so they look to it for energy. Fat released by this layer of tissue goes to your liver, and from there to your arteries, where it is linked to higher LDL (bad) cholesterol and low HDL ( the good kind) as well as high triglycerides and inflammation causing chemicals. The more omental fat you have, the less of the anti-inflammatory, anti-stress chemical called adiponectin you produce. This is all bad for your heart.
Exercise may help some, but the main cause of an increasing omentum would be excess food. Portion control, a diet high in vegetables, fruits, 100% whole grains and Omega-3 fats is best. Avoid all processed foods and go light on the sugar and that should help stop the omentum momentum.
Note: Liposuction is an unnecessary and risky procedure and should not be considered a form of weight control.
