A study published in November of 2014 in Nutrition Today shows that high antioxidant spices enhance our health and protect against diseases such as heart disease. The researchers found that when eating a high fat diet that by adding high antioxidant spices such as garlic, rosemary, oregano, cinnamon, cloves, turmeric, ginger and black pepper, that levels of triglycerides in blood could be lowered by about 30%.
It is interesting that in a previous study, taking vitamin E prevented some of the decrease in blood flow after a high fat meal. A combination of these nutrients could reduce the incidence of heart attacks and strokes.
The most impressive message is that eating a wide variety of whole foods on a daily basis is the best way to nourish and protect your health.
