Irritable Bowel Syndrome Constipation (IBS-C) Nutritional Support Protocol

submitted by: admin on 12/29/2024

Most cases of IBS are associated with an imbalance of the microbes in the gut. Correcting this imbalance with natural microbes can have a profound effect on symptoms and recovery. Probiotics (friendly microbes) are a cornerstone of effective treatment, but there are many essential nutrients that support the natural healing process of the intestinal tract that are also valuable. Dr. Saputo recommends the following lifestyle, dietary, and supplement approach to help improve IBS symptoms and restore normal intestinal function.

*Dr. Saputo recommends the Lifestyle, Dietary, and Supplement protocols listed below as considerations for treatment for IBS. Nutritional Support Protocol

Lifestyle Recommendations:

1. Food sensitivity and gut dysbiosis testing via the DFH Comprehensive Metabolic Profile are highly recommended.

2. Keep a food log and track symptoms.

3. Avoid coffee and alcohol.

4. Avoid spicy foods such as hot Indian dishes.

5. Dr. Saputo also recommends you take our IBS Health Assessment

Dietary Recommendations:

1. Do not consume foods you are allergic or sensitive to.

2. Rotating foods every fourth day may be necessary.

3. Avoid diet drinks and all artificial sweeteners. Replace sugar with the polyol sugar xylitol and titrate up dose.

4. Salads and raw vegetables may be difficult to tolerate. Use PaleoGreens and PaleoReds to obtain your fruit and veggies.

5. Especially helpful foods are applesauce, freshly ground flaxseed meal, wild cold water fish and bananas.

6. Carry Cocommune Bars with you throughout the day to prevent missing meals or snacks.

Supplement Recommendations:

In addition to the nutrition and lifestyle program recommended by Dr. Saputo, he also recommends the following targeted supplement protocol.

Tegricel Colostrum: 1 capsule twice daily before meals

GI Revive: 1 teaspoon in 4 oz water, 1-2 times daily

Probiotic Supreme: 1 caplet with each meal

L-Glutamine Powder: two teaspoons daily (6 grams)

If constipation persists add:

PaleoFiber: 1 tablespoon with each meal and increase water consumption If symptoms persist:

Aloe/200x: 1 with each meal, 3 per day

Consider a GI Effects Stool Analysis from Metametrix Labs (1-800-221-4640);; if infection is present:

GI Microb-X: 2-3 caps three times daily on an empty stomach for 4 weeks.
