Sacrificing sleep for extra study is counterproductive according to a UCLA study published in the journal, Child Development. For 14 days, 535 high school students kept diaries on how long they studied, how long they slept, and whether or not they experienced academic problems.
Today's educational system is built on competitiveness and rewards those who work at the expense of a healthy lifestyle. How much of what you learned in high school or college is of value today? It is time for our educational system to evolve and consider more than its academic educational content. Learning can be fun and needs to be balanced with exercise, social interaction, adequate sleep, and time to relax.
