Sleep Can Be Improved with Essential Fatty Acids

submitted by: admin on 03/21/2014

A study from Oxford University that was published in the Journal of Sleep Research in March of 2014 showed that among 362 children between the ages of 7-9 slept significantly longer when on a course of supplements containing the omega 3 essential fatty acid DHA. It was interesting that among these "normal" kids that 40% had clinical sleep disorders!

Several studies (HANES studies) done by the USDA on tens of thousands of people revealed that 95% of the US population is deficient in essential fatty acids. We can increase our intake by consuming more seeds and nuts, fish oil, and oils rich in GLA (gammalinolenic acid). Flax seed oil is a good source of both omega 3 and 6 oils.
