Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry is an excellent book that talks about the film, "The Story of Cosmetics" including the toxicity and lack of regulation of the cosmetics industry. Makeup, hair dyes, lipstick, and even baby shampoos are linked to cancer, birth defects, fertility problems, skin problems and much more. The amounts of toxins in each product is small, but they clearly add up to create a major issue. The Safe Cosmetics Act was recently passed and changed the regulations of cosmetic products. It requires cosmetic companies to disclose all the ingredients in their cosmetics, require safety review by the FDA, and phase out the most harmful chemicals.
