Aromatherapy treatment was shown to lower the anxiety of emergency room nurses. Yet this is not done in clinical practice. It could be used in the hospital to relax the entire staff and patients. Lavender would be a good example. Massage therapy is another very useful relaxants, especially for surgeons.

Hospital environments leave much to be desired for comfort. Convenience in the hospital is more for the staff but at home it is the reverse. HMOs are starting to pay for home care. The pros and cons are addressed.

Dehumanization in today's medical practice is the standard of care. This has been especially common since the institution of the hospitalists. Patients are no longer often managed by their primary care doctor. They are often dressed half-naked, identified by their disease (ie the gallbladder in room 325), and treated as though they cannot participate in making...
