Detoxification is an aspect of human health that MDs are aware of but not well trained to practice. Yet we live in a sea of toxins and our food, water, air and soil are severely polluted. Our bodies are remarkable capable of getting rid of most of these toxins through our GI tract, respiration, kidney function, bile excretion, and skin. Many toxic chemicals are preferentially excreted through sweat, especially heavy metals and petrochemicals. Our skin does much more than cool us down when it is hot.
One very common misconception in medical practice is that if there's not much of a toxin in our blood stream, we're cannot be poisoned. This leads to missing many kinds of poisoning such as those that are preferentially stored in our fatty tissues because they are fat soluble. These substances include heavy metals such as mercury, lead (although much of it is stored eventually in bone), and cadmium, as well as petrochemicals, pesticides etc. It is possible to be severely toxic to these substances and yet have only minor levels in the blood.
Sweating through most any means is a very good way to excrete these fat soluble chemicals. The best way to achieve this through exercise, far infrared saunas, and through supporting excretion with nutritional measures.
