Sitting is a Risk for Type 2 Diabetes

submitted by: admin on 12/25/2024

The risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and death is doubled if you sit more than half of the time according to a meta-analysis of nearly 800,000 people, that is published in the October 2012 issue of the journal, Diabetologia. This link is over and above other lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise.

While the cause for this was not discussed, it makes one wonder if it might be related to stalled detoxification caused by impaired lymphatic and venous flow to the heart. The mechanism driving lymph and venous blood back to the heart depends on muscular contractions in the legs, which does not occur when we're sitting. This could even be exaggerated by eating an unhealthy lunch that has a lot of sugar that would further impair detoxification by the liver and lead to shifting of metabolism to storing fat in the liver and abdomen.
