Rhythmical, smooth breathing can reduce the feeling of breathlessness. Lengthening expiration helps reduce the hyperinflation of the lungs and relieve breathlessness. Learning to use the diaphragm and stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system is critical in increasing the exchange of gases.
