The purpose of California Health Alliance is to curb the epidemic of obesity and Type 2 diabetes in California. There has been an increase of 5% per year of diabetes in kids under the age of 5. A study published in Pediatrics from the University of Ottawa documented that 75% of children in ICU with serious illnesses had low vitamin D levels and were noted to be sicker, requiring more life support services, and longer times in the ICU. Considering that there is an epidemic of vitamin D deficiency caused by lack of exposure to sunlight, it is not particularly...

Helicobacter Pylori is found in 50% of human beings. Sometimes it causes problems and at other times it is protective. It is associated with type 2 diabetes, ulcers, and gastric cancer but is protective against asthma, colitis, and intestinal infections. Managing its presence is tricky. Mainstream doctors tend to use triple therapy (two antibiotics, proton pump...

Our diets destroy our health, and sugar is the most devastating compound we consume. Sugar is rapidly absorbed and causes excessive insulin levels that lead to inflammation and many chronic diseases. Raymond explains this.

According to Joslin Clinic Studies published in the journal Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, high levels of insulin in themselves do not cause arteriosclerosis. Without other factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes, high levels of insulin do not cause arteriosclerosis. There must be insulin resistance in endothelial...

Iron storage disease, or hemochromatosis, affects 10-15% of the population, and perhaps even more if you know how to diagnose it. Iron overload increases free radical damage via the Fenton reaction. Hepcidin is a hormone that regulates iron levels by increasing the absorption of iron. The is new research showing that at least experimentally it is possible...

The first long term study (22 years) showed that for every month of treatment with chlorthalidone for high blood pressure extended life by one day. This JAMA of December 2011 showed that over 10 years this is 4 months of life extension. It has already been well established that strokes and heart attacks are reduced dramatically, and that may be much...

Type 2 diabetes is nearly always a preventable disease and is usually reversible using lifestyle strategies by themselves. There are dozens of medications available to treat elevated blood sugar levels, but nearly all of them have common potentially serious "side effects." There are also a wide range of nutritional supplements that are equally effective...

The mechanisms of and possible complications of diabetes are reviewed. When blood sugar levels rise sufficiently they damage vital proteins and lead to heart attacks, strokes, peripheral vascular disease, retinopathy, kidney disease, and neuropathy. Lifestyle is the most important treatment to prevent these complications. Certain supplements that can...

Lifestyle is a powerful antidote to inflammation. All the pharmaceutical drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes have significant side effects that are potentially serious. The common drug classes used to treat diabetes are reviewed. Some of these drugs increase the risk of heart attack and death by more than 50%.

There is an epidemic of Alzheimer's disease. Diabetes of the brain is called type 3. The brain makes its own diabetes and its own receptor sites. Alzheimer's is an energetic glucose regulation defect that leads to an energy deficiency. We cannot use the glut of sugar that is available because it cannot be transported into brain cells because of insulin...

Being overweight leads to inflammation, which causes insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and its complications. It also leads to leptin resistance, which leads to increasing our appetite center in our brain. High fructose corn syrup is especially powerful in causing resistance of insulin and leptin. Exercise is a huge factor that protects against being over...
